The Blueprint Apollo 20 Fellows Program:

The Blueprint Apollo 20 Fellows program is part of a larger school turnaround mission, the Apollo 20 Program (further described below), which takes practices that are common to highly effective charter and public schools and implements these practices in low-performing traditional public schools to accelerate achievement

The Blueprint Apollo 20 Fellowship is an urban education fellowship with the Houston Independent School District (HISD) located in Houston, TX. Fellows sign on for a year of service and work with small groups of students throughout the school day in reading and math in elementary, middle or high schools.

Fellows are an integral part of a larger school turnaround project that is the result of a partnership between HISD and Blueprint Schools Network. Blueprint works directly with districts to implement these strategies in schools that need it most. As Blueprint Fellow, you will have the opportunity to be part of this bold initiative, which has the potential to significantly alter the world of education reform. Your commitment to the program will be a vital component in transforming public education.

The Apollo 20 Program

The Apollo 20 program is a bold initiative to transform public education in Houston and improve the academic achievement of all students. Apollo schools use strategies and best practices from successful public and charter schools across the nation. Five strategies have been identified by Harvard University’s Education Innovation Laboratory, HISD’s partner in the Apollo 20 program. Those strategies include:

  1. Excellence in Leadership and Instruction
  2. Increased Instructional Time
  3. A No-Excuses Culture of High Expectations
  4. Frequent Assessments to Improve Instruction
  5. Daily Tutoring in Critical Areas

The Apollo 20 schools will prepare all students for college and career success. Hailed as one of the most important efforts going on in the country today to increase performance and close the achievement gap, the Apollo 20 program has received generous financial support from national and local corporations and foundations.

Each Apollo 20 school focuses on the end goal of preparing all students for success in college and their careers. Apollo 20 is a partnership of the HISD, Blueprint Schools Network (Blueprint), and The Education Innovation Laboratory at Harvard University (EdLabs).
